Welcome Back Bulldog Family!

Another school year is underway at Quitman Public Schools. We are excited to have our students back on campus, and it’s our mission to ensure that every child feels safe, welcome, and part of our Bulldog Family. We’ve worked to establish a culture of high expectations in all areas, and we thank you all for your continued support in helping us maintain a culture of excellence; one that strives for high levels of learning for all students.

Our enrollment has exceeded 920 Pre-Kindergarten through twelfth grade students! We are particularly proud of the growth in Pre-K. Research shows that prekindergarten services jumpstart learning and help children develop social and academic skills that prepare them for elementary school. Because of our growth, we’ve had to tweak some systems, like our car rider lines, and we appreciate all who’ve been so patient with us as we’ve adjusted. Mrs. Griffin, Mrs. Stacy, and Officer Love have worked hard to ensure the new car rider lines flow safely and quickly; please thank them when you see them!

Fourth grade through high school teachers will be sharing important ACT Aspire assessment data with parents at our upcoming parent teacher conferences on September 28. While we continue to have areas where we strive for more growth, our students are excelling in many areas. Last year’s sixth grade students had tremendous growth in all content bands, including 16% growth in math and 14% growth in reading. Since 2018, our high school students (ninth and tenth grade) have had a combined 21% growth in reading! We continue to be among the top 15% of school districts in the state for student academic achievement. Please mark your calendars for this first conference of the year. Our teachers are eager to meet with you. Our school calendar can be found @quitmansd.org under the Our Schools Tab at the top.

Our extracurricular and athletic programs continue to flourish. We have seen great growth in our agriculture education department and have started construction on a 3000 square foot greenhouse to enhance our plant science program of study. Many students were part of the four career and technical organizations that competed at the national level this past summer. Our athletic programs continue to compete at the state level earning 4 state championships during the 2022/2023 school year, in addition to the many other district awards. Please join us for a historic state championship ring ceremony to celebrate the 4 most recent state championships on September 11 at 6PM in the Bulldog Complex!

If you can’t make it to our home athletic events this year, you can tune in online @quitmansd.org to the first ever Bulldog Sports Network! Our EAST students are livestreaming our home games, and we are hoping to expand our coverage to include more events in the future. We are grateful to the many generous community sponsors who never hesitate to support our school, students, and programs.

Strong community partnerships build strong schools and our most recent partnership with Boston Mountain Rural Health is a perfect example. A rural health center will open on our campus soon and will serve our students and families from wellness visits to sick appointments, providing high quality, comprehensive medical and behavioral health care. We will provide the required paperwork that allows your child to be seen at the health center at our upcoming parent conferences as well.

We believe in forming strong relationships with parents and know that clear communication is a very important part of building that relationship. Please let us know if you aren’t being included in the following:

  • Weekly School Reach Telephone Calls

  • Social Media Posts (Facebook @QuitmanPublicSchools)

  • Weekly Bark Newsletter Emails

  • Remind Messages (text @quitmanps to 81010 to sign up)

  • Home Access Center (call 501-589-2554 if you need credentials or help logging in)

This is going to be another great year at Quitman Schools! Please don’t hesitate to call, email, or text if you have questions, concerns, or praise. Thank you for partnering with us, and Go Bulldogs!

Sincerely,

Michael Stacks
