Parent letter Mid Year 2023

January 22, 2023

Bulldog Family,

It’s hard to believe, but we are at the halfway mark in the 2023 School Year! We’ve had another great and historic year so far at Quitman Schools, and we thank you all for your unwavering support. Only true members of our Bulldog Family can understand what it really means to be a member. Bulldog Family members understand how we work together positively to authentically support and encourage each other with student safety, growth, and learning as our top priorities.

Few school districts experience the growth and success that Quitman Schools has experienced the past six years. Our student enrollment is up over 30%! This growth and success has brought so many positive changes to our schools, and it has also brought its fair share of challenges. Thanks to all of you who’ve helped us celebrate the successes and work through the challenges in positive and productive ways.

From the passage of a historic millage that has brought many promised improvements to our facilities, to our numerous awards for academic, athletic, and extracurricular excellence, Quitman Schools is now among the top in the state! Our middle and high schools are in the top 10% for student academic growth and performance. Our students now have a multitude of opportunities to be involved in career and technical courses, concurrent and advanced courses, and more extracurricular opportunities than ever before. We have more teachers with master’s degrees than ever, and our entire staff is committed to ensuring high levels of learning for all our students.

A greater focus on literacy in our elementary school is leading to improved changes and growth in our PreK through fifth grade students. We are committed to making reading a top priority, and we need the help of all our parents. Studies show that early reading experiences between parents and children positively impact reading achievement. We also need your help when it comes to student attendance. Almost 15% of our elementary students are chronically (more than 10% days missed) absent! Students who aren’t at school don’t learn. Please ensure your child is at school everyday and make reading a priority at home.

We are committed to ensuring your child is safe, engaged, and learning at high levels everyday. Thank you for trusting us with your children, and thank you for your loyalty and commitment to our school and community! Please reach out to us anytime; we welcome your questions, input, and involvement. My cell phone number is 501-554-5125 or you can email @ stacksm@quitman.k12.ar.us It’s a great time to be a Bulldog!

Sincerely,
